Confessions of a Blogaholic: From Communist Romania to Author World

Hi there! I'm Cristina Gherghel, and I survived the glorious days of ex Republic Socialist Romania – yes, that means I've got some serious communist street cred. But don't worry, I've since moved on to more exciting things. You might recognize me as Cristina G., the signature that adorned my books until the wild year of 2022.

Check out the fashionista of the year!

Who needs Paris or Milan when you have a little communist girl rocking the trousers-under-school-uniform look?
It's a bold fashion statement, and I must say, it's truly revolutionary!
Oh, and let's not forget that stuffed Bambi I had my hand on.
Talk about traumatizing childhood memories. Fashion and taxidermy, a winning combo!

This right here is my latest blog, one of the many I've embarked upon. I must admit, I've got a bit of a blog addiction. I just can't resist opening them left and right. It's like I'm collecting them, and trust me, I've lost count of how many I actually have. But hey, who needs numbers when you've got an insatiable desire to blog?

So stick around, my friends, and join me on this hilarious journey of blog-opening madness.

Who knows?

Maybe one day I'll even find the time to actually write something on them.

Now on more of a serious note.

I learned to read and write at the age of 8. As that happened, I read Les Misérables by Victor Hugo and knew exactly what I would have liked to do when I grew up: become a writer to make people feel what my characters feel—joy, love, happiness, sadness. I wanted them to fight with my characters, to cry and to hope with them. But I couldn’t dream of being a writer... I didn’t dare because I was born a farmer, and my destiny was already sealed.

So, I did what I had to do, what was expected and demanded from me. After the fall of communism, it took me 10 years to find the courage to leave my country. Honestly, it wasn’t easy to emigrate back then. Romanians needed a visa wherever they went and someone to sponsor them in the chosen country, and then the right to stay and work. I didn't have the means, connections, and such.

But one day, I finally could, and I left. Only when I write this introduction do I realize a coincidence I have never noticed before: I waited 10 years to immigrate, and I stayed in Italy for 10 years. It was a great experience that I would not repeat, knowing what happened during my time in beautiful and sunny Italy. I wrote a short memoir about it titled "Ten Years in Italy, Three Weeks a Human."

In 2014, I immigrated to England—a country for which I had no great expectations, considering what happened in Italy. Yet, in the United Kingdom, the childhood dream I never dared to dream became true.  I was 40 when the miracle happened.

I am now an author. I write about things I understand, things I study and learn. Most importantly, I write about what I feel and what happens to me.

It's not because my life is exceptionally extraordinary, but simply because, why not?

It's not like other people are writing about me, are they? I mean, why would they?

Honestly, I've lost track of the number of blogs I've opened, but hey, who's counting?

This particular blog is all about my brand spanking new books, which I proudly sign as Cristina Gherghel.

So grab your favorite snack, get comfy, and get ready to dive into the exciting world of my literary adventures. Brace yourselves for thrilling stories, unforgettable characters, and a whole lot of laughs along the way.

And hey, if you've made it this far, thank you for reading. Your dedication means the world to me, or at least to the countless blogs I've started!

Let the bookish shenanigans begin!

Update: June 2, 2023.

Instead of promoting my latest book, "iPERIMENOPAUSE: The Latest Upgrade to the Operating System of my Life - Malfunction: Hormonal Mayhem," which is set to release on June 3rd, guess what?

I have decided to launch another blog.
Isn't that extraordinary? I mean, who does something like that?

Well, I do.

Check it out here; it's truly something special. Currently, it has the same template, but it's a serious endeavor. Oh, and it's all about me, author Cristina Gherghel, formerly known as Cristina G. It features a multilingual bio in a blog format.

I'm certain you're eagerly waiting to read it, so here's the link: https://cristinagherghelglobal.blogspot.com.

Yes, Cristina Gherghel goes global.
Not without reason, this post is titled: "Confessions of a Blogaholic: From Communist Romania to Author World."
